Dragonflies are fascinating. They have existed for millions of years, and are incredibly adept at moving around, like little flying jewels. In animal lore, the dragonfly is associated with light, mysticism and the balance between emotion and mind, as it spends its early life as a nymph in the water before taking to the air. They also have cool names like “widow skimmer” and “pondhawk,” as the one in this painting is called.
